Roof Repairs

Most roofs don’t need replacing. They need the right repair, done properly. We deal with the everyday problems that let water in and cause damage over time, from a handful of slipped tiles to a section that’s seen better days.

We’ll take a proper look, tell you what we’ve found in plain terms, and give you a straightforward quote before any work starts.

Repairs can include:

  • Replacing slipped, cracked or missing tiles and slates
  • Re-bedding or repointing ridge and hip tiles
  • Repairs to flashing around chimneys, valleys and abutments
  • Small sections of re-felting or re-tiling where needed
  • Making a roof watertight again after damage

Leaking Roof Repairs

A leak is rarely where the damp shows up inside. Water can travel a long way before it appears on a ceiling, so finding the real cause matters as much as the repair itself.

We’ll track down where the water is getting in, explain what’s happening, and sort it before it does more damage to ceilings, insulation and plaster.

Leak repairs can include:

  • Investigating the source of a persistent leak or damp patch
  • Repairs to worn or lifted flashing and lead work
  • Fixing failed valleys, junctions and abutments
  • Replacing damaged or perished roofing felt
  • Sealing around vents, pipes and other roof penetrations

Guttering Repairs

Guttering is easy to ignore until it overflows down a wall. Blocked or broken gutters are one of the most common causes of damp, so keeping them clear and running properly protects the rest of the building.

We clear, repair and replace guttering and downpipes, and we’ll tell you honestly whether a repair will do or whether a section is past it.

Guttering work can include:

  • Clearing blocked gutters, hoppers and downpipes
  • Re-fixing sagging or pulled-away guttering
  • Sealing leaking joints and repairing splits
  • Replacing damaged sections of gutter and downpipe
  • Realigning gutters so they drain the way they should

Fascia boards and soffits along the edge of a house roof

04 · Service

Fascias & Soffits

The fascias and soffits are the boards that run along the edge of your roof. They hold the guttering, close off the roof space and keep weather and wildlife out, so when they start to rot or come away, it’s worth dealing with.

We repair and replace tired roofline boards and tidy the whole edge up so it looks right and does its job.

Roofline work can include:

  • Replacing rotten, split or warped fascia boards
  • Repairing or replacing soffits and closing off the eaves
  • Refitting guttering to a sound, level fascia
  • Neatening up the roofline after other repairs

Chimney Repairs

Chimneys take a battering from the weather and are a common place for leaks to start. Worn pointing, cracked flaunching or failed flashing all let water in where the stack meets the roof.

We carry out chimney repairs and make sure the joint between the chimney and the roof is properly sealed.

Chimney work can include:

  • Repointing worn or crumbling mortar joints
  • Renewing cracked flaunching around the pots
  • Repairing or replacing lead flashing at the base of the stack
  • Making a leaking chimney watertight again

Where a chimney is beyond economical repair, we’ll say so honestly rather than patching over it.

Storm-damaged roof with slipped and missing tiles

Storm Damage

Scottish weather is hard on roofs. High winds lift and strip tiles, dislodge ridge lines and pull at flashing and lead, and once a roof is open, water gets in quickly.

When you’ve had storm damage, the first job is to make the roof safe and watertight, then sort the repair properly. Get in touch and we’ll let you know how soon we can get to you.

Storm damage help can include:

  • Making a damaged roof safe and watertight
  • Replacing tiles and slates stripped by the wind
  • Refitting or repairing ridge lines, flashing and lead
  • Clearing debris and checking for hidden damage

If you’re dealing with an insurance claim, we’re happy to provide a clear written quote for the work.

General Roofing Maintenance

The cheapest roof repair is the one you catch early. A bit of regular upkeep goes a long way towards avoiding the bigger, more expensive problems further down the line.

Whether you want a look over an older roof, a build-up of moss dealt with, or a small job sorting before it grows, we’re happy to help. No job too small.

Maintenance can include:

  • Checking over a roof and reporting back on its condition
  • Clearing moss, debris and build-up from tiles and gutters
  • Small repairs picked up before they get worse
  • Tidying up flashing, pointing and ridge lines
  • Sensible advice on what needs doing now and what can wait
